Oh, it is cold here. So very cold. In fact, there was a collective sigh of relief when the thermometer actually registered a temperature above zero this afternoon. Because at least it wasn't negative anything out there. Positive numbers are good for morale in more than one area of of life, it seems.
I keep looking out the window at the birds visiting our backyard feeder and feeling amazed at how they continue to go about their usual bird business with relative efficiency, despite the seemingly inhospitable conditions surrounding them. I suppose that having a tiny little body covered with layers of downy fluff and waterproof feathers is helpful, but I'm just not sure how subjective the feel of eleven degrees below zero can really be.
Remind me to fill the birdfeeder back up to the very top tomorrow morning. My avian neighbors are certainly deserving of a bit of cold weather kindness.
