That Time of Year.

Now that Alphabet Glue lives in its own house and isn't just operating out of a back room of this blog, I often forget to look at my blog stats for long periods of time.  And then something will remind me to check them out, so I'll take a peek and notice that folks have been digging through the archives looking for something in particular.  Often, it is something seasonal.  This week, it would appear that everyone is on the hunt for printable thank you notes for post-holiday acknowledgements. 

So with that in mind, I thought that I would take a quick moment to relink to the printable thank you notes that I made for you all last year around this time.  You can find them here. 

And, might I also shamelessly plug the latest issue of The Glue just a little bit and remind you that there is also a nice set of printable thank you notes included there?  Yes, I believe I might.  They are Canada Geese-themed and come with fold-your-own envelopes too.  And now there is officially no good excuse: your mother is checking her mailbox.

Thoughts About Very Little (and Giveaway Winners, too).

Zero Degrees at the Backyard Buffet.

Oh, it is cold here.  So very cold.  In fact, there was a collective sigh of relief when the thermometer actually registered a temperature above zero this afternoon.  Because at least it wasn't negative anything out there.  Positive numbers are good for morale in more than one area of of life, it seems.  

I keep looking out the window at the birds visiting our backyard feeder and feeling amazed at how they continue to go about their usual bird business with relative efficiency, despite the seemingly inhospitable conditions surrounding them.  I suppose that having a tiny little body covered with layers of downy fluff and waterproof feathers is helpful, but I'm just not sure how subjective the feel of eleven degrees below zero can really be. 

Remind me to fill the birdfeeder back up to the very top tomorrow morning.  My avian neighbors are certainly deserving of a bit of cold weather kindness.

Fall on the Farm.

Welcoming the New.

2012 was made of beach sand and baby toes.  Sweater sleeves and backyard birding.  Stacks of library books, lakeside stoneskipping, cooking up jars upon jars of tomatillo salsa from the garden.  We settled into life as a family of four, and started exploring the possibilities for our Big Move, now only a few months away.  I saw fireflies for the very first time, Mariam learned to play Dvorak on the violin.  There was birthday cake, tree climbing, acorn gathering.  We saw a space shuttle, rescued ladybugs, and watched Venus cross in front of the sun. It may have been a year of smaller moments than its predecessor, but 2013 promises big enough stuff to make up for many years of more ordinary days.

So Happy New Year to you and yours. May your year be one of finding joy and wonder in both the everyday and the extraordinary.  Peace.
