Did I say something about finishing this sweater by the end of last week? Hmn. Well, let's just pretend like I didn't.

I did get the first sleeve finished in entirety, including the ribbing at the bottom, which I found tremendously satisfying. Particularly because it allowed me to finally have my girl try on the sweater and it does indeed appear that it will actually fit. Hallelujah.
And, the second sleeve is cast on. Can we talk for just a moment about my ultimate knitting pet peeve? I can never figure out why every sweater pattern ever seems to call for picking up fewer stitches under the arm than is actually required to prevent weird underarm holes. Is this because I am a super tight knitter? Perhaps. But somehow, I don't think so, because this problem seems to be a common complaint among knitters that I know. So here we all are, casting on extra stitches and trying very hard to remember to decrease them later while also keeping the baby from pulling the cat's tail and making sure that dinner isn't burning. Because there isn't enough to think about already.
And thank you, everyone, for the well-wishing surrounding The Big Storm. We are just fine here. Somehow, the fact that the storm suddenly picked up speed before making landfall changed the wind pattern significantly, sparing Vermont the worst of the expected wind and rains. But the news from other parts of the East Coast is less positive, so let's all keep a good thought for our friends and family in those places today.
