So, this lovely little lady arrived in the mail, a purchase I made from Astulabee's Etsy shop a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of the big upcoming fourth birthday at our house. I had a hard time getting a really good photo of her, I am still struggling with the winter light/photo quality issue. (This last sentence should be interpreted as: I need to get unlazy and learn how to actually use my fancy camera). I should say though that this doll is so, so lovely. She has amazing details stitched all over the place and is just so charming and sweet. I might have a really hard time giving her up, even though I know that Mariam will love her as much as I do. I'm just really pleased to have a found a really great gift for her that is also lovingly handmade- I'm really trying to instill in her the idea that handmade is more special, more wonderful than the mass produced pink plastic stuff that she sees everywhere.
Speaking of mass produced and pink, we had a pretty funny moment the other day. She was spinning around and around in the living room (a real favorite activity) and kept saying "Look, I'm a dizzy princess!" We realized after a few moments that she was referring to the mysterious "Disney princesses" that she keeps hearing so much about but that since she really lacks a clear understanding of who and what they are, she thinks that they are "dizzy princesses" instead. This of course means that they must be princesses who spin around a lot. Hah!
Anyway, must get going. We have to get headed out the door to our respective school days and apparently, we also have to celebrate my imaginary birthday before we go. Mariam says that my playdoh cake is about to come out of the oven and that I will be fourteen today. Fourteen sounds good.
